Introduction

All the ballast tanks and cargo tanks undergoes the air test before launching.


Purpose

The air test of ballast tanks and cargo tanks are done to ensure the integrity of the tanks.


Procedure

All the openings in the tanks are closed and air pressure is built up in the tank up to 0.15 bar.

Manual butt welds

Soap solution is applied on manual butt welds to look out for leaks.

Fillet welds

Soap solution is applied on fillet weld areas (tank boundaries) to look out for leaks.

Conclusion

The outcome of the test has to be noted down and if there are no leaks the tank(s) is(are) accepted.
